abstract The results of microstructure observation and X-ray diffraction of polypropylene and polypropylene with glass fibre composites have been presented. Composites containing 30 and 50% glass fibre were tested. Phase structure of polypropylene and its composites was observed by using scanning electron microscope. The results of microscope observations are shown in Fig. 1. Spherulit structure occurs in polypropylene as well as in its composites. The degree crystallinity investigations were made by the X-ray diffraction. The measurements were performed on a diffractometer (Seifert 3003 T-T) in reflection mode with an angular range from 6o to 38o in 2θ. The step width was 0.1o and the measuring time per step was 8 s. The resulting X-ray diagram are presented in Fig. 2. X-ray diffraction patterns show that a small addition of glass fibre results in increasing of the amount of amorphous phase; thus in turn makes degree of crystallinity descreased. The degree of crystallinity calculations done for polypropylene and its composites are presented in Fig. 3.
