abstract The purpose of this project was to estimate the influence of degree of fineness of polyester-glass fiber recyclate on mechanical properties of adhesive joints. Two recyclates vary in size of particles were used as a filler of adhesive. In order to determine the influence of particle size of recyclate stereological tests were made. Adhesives with addition of 1050% wt. of recyclates were made. Basic component of adhesive was polyester resin. The mechanical properties of adhesive bonding using recyclate as a filler have been presented. The values of shear strength, peel strength and flexural strength of adhesive joints were evaluated and compared with analogical properties appointed for adhesive without recyclate. The results of the investigations have shown that using composite wastes as a filler of polyester adhesive leads to improvement of mechanical properties of joint. Shear strength do not decrease up to 30% of mass fraction of REC I and 15% of REC II. For higher fraction sudden decrease of shear strength can be observed, which is probably connected with viscosity changing. The peel test has shown that addition of recyclates result in increase of peel strength and max force needed for crack initiation. Higher values of peel strength were registered for adhesives with addition of REC II. Flexural strength of adhesive joints containing recyclates was also higher in comparison to resin without studied filler. Main type of failure was adhesive failure, rupture of the adhesively bonded joint, such that the separation appears to be at the adhesive-laminate interface. It can be also observed failure occurring within the FRP adherend, near the surface, characterized by a thin layer of the FRP resin matrix visible on the adhesive. Polyester glass-fibre recyclates can be used as a filler of adhesives in amount up to 30%, results in favourable mechanical properties of adhesive joint.
