abstract The principal stages and technological operations in the manufacturing process of metal matrix composites processed by the powder metallurgy route are presented in this paper - table 1. Next are shown the production methods of powders with matrix or composite composition, and the methods of preparing of mixes for compaction by dry and wet mixing. Attention was payed on compaction and composite parts forming: die compaction, hot and cold isostatic compaction, rolling, extrusion, infiltration of powders, spray deposition, PVD and CVD processes, injection moulding and slip casting. The purpose of sintering and importance of protective atmosphere was also marked. The methods of obtaining full (100%) density: hot pressing, hot extrusion, forging, rolling etc. was presented and technological operations lead up to better mechanical properties as well as allowing to get necessary shapes and accuracy: coining, machining and joing was presented. In the second part of the paper is shown the example of the production process of aluminium matrix composites reinforced with ceramic particles - fig. 1. The process of extrusion is realized in two variants. The first one consists pressing of the mixture of powders in can before extrusion, the second uses during extrusion earlier compacted billets.
