abstract The results of castability experiments of the AlMg10 alloy matrix composites with 10, 20 and 30% vol. Graphite particles were presented in this paper. The Ni-NiCr thermoelements were placed into cavity of sand spiral test mould in the position from the gate. The spiral mould was prepared from O.B.B. SAND „E” moulding sand consits of fine-grained sand and oil. During flow of composite suspension through the mould channel the temperature registraction was carried out by means of computer measuring card PCL 818. The castability results and pictures of spiral test castings were presented (Figs. 1, 2). On the ground of the temperature curves for each place of mould (Figs. 3-5) the function of length spiral and instantaneous flow velocity were determined (Figs. 6-8). In different places of spiral castings the microstructures pictures were carried out (Figs. 9- 11). Heterogeneous arrangement of graphite particles along the casting length and decreasing flow velocity were observed with increasing of graphite particle volume fraction in composite. During composite flow the coming up to the surface and pushing of graphite particles were observed. Key words: castability, composites, aluminium alloys
